The embattled leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky, has been freed by the Federal Government and flown out of Abuja, tonight, to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Emirates Airline en route India for medical treatment.
Sources at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, claimed that El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, arrived Abuja airport at about 3pm local time.
El-Zakzaky who was accompanied by four men from the Department of State Services (DSS) and two women arrived the airport on a wheel chair.
He was said to have departed in an aircraft, marked EK 786 at 18.45 local time.
El-Zakzaky and his wife were arrested in December 2015 and have remained in DSS detention since, amidst reports of deteriorating health.
A High Court in Kaduna granted the couple leave to enable them embark on the medical trip.
