President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN to exclude itself from providing foreign exchange for food importation.
At a lunch gathering for All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors held at Daura, Katsina state. President Muhammadu Buhari through his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu said that efforts are on to improve the quality of lives of the people through the new initiative.
The President stated that henceforth, dependence on foreign food will reduce to the barest minimum noting that the foreign reserve will aid the actualization of economic diversification.
He added that states such as Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos, Jigawa, Ebonyi and Kano have already keyed into the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture by advancing rice production in their respective states, He charged other states to embrace the new phase of operation feed the nation.
Buhari said: “We have achieved food security, and for physical security, we are not doing badly.”
He said, Many young Nigerians including graduates are now self-dependent having acquired entrepreneurship skills and using it to expand their Agric businesses.
