South African government has shut its embassy in Nigeria, a fallout of the retaliation attacks on south African businesses in Nigeria.
In a press statement, the acting high commissioner Bobby Amo said all consular activities in Nigeria should be suspended until the situation improves . He said south Africans feels unsafe in Nigeria hence the need the shut down the embassy till further notice . Both countries stepped up security on Wednesday after deadly attacks on foreigners owned stores in South African cities which triggered reprisals against South African businesses in Nigeria .
The riot has killed no less than 5 people in south Africa while several stores such as MTN officers and Shoprite have been attacked and looted in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the federal government has urged Nigerians not to make retaliatory actions on south Africans and their businesses while diplomatic channels are already are being explored.
