The presidency has debunked rumoured plans to change Nigeria’s constitution to enable Muhammadu Buhari bid for a third term rule.
The Senior Special Assistant to the president on media and publicity ,Garba Shehu in a statement issued on Tuesday said President Buhari is a Democrat and has respect for the constitution.
He stated that the sitting president will not be a candidate in the general election in 2023.
He further dismissed the possibility of a change in term of a Nigerian president , saying “ There is not even the faintest possibility that this will change.”
Garba recalled past leaders who had tried to change the constitution to extend their terms describing the attempts as unlawful and rightly rejected.
