2020 Elections: INEC THREATENS TO STOP EDO, ONDO ELECTIONS.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has threatened to cancel the Edo and Ondo governorship elections if there’s any form of disruptive process,

The INEC commissioner for information, Festus Okoye disclosed this in Abuja, while attending a meeting with stakeholders.

He said that the aggressive actions and incendiary statements by political parties, candidates and their supporters is currently giving INEC a reason to suspend the election.

The commissioner also frowned at people who go about destroying opponents’ campaign materials, violent campaigns and those who engage in the use of offensive language.

“It is important for political parties, candidates and their supporters to keep in mind that there are extant laws and regulations that must be adhered to during campaigns.”

The commission said it would be strict with the electoral process to ensure politicians remain law abiding citizens, while reminding parties that the polls would hold at a time of a global pandemic.

He added that the commission won’t give room for threats or violence as the elections must  be conducted as soon as possible.

The Commissioner admonished stakeholders from the two states to adhere to maintaining peace and order in a bid to enjoy a smooth electoral process, warning that political actors should desist from disruptive actions.
