
Former Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been elected as the Director General of the World Trade Organisation.
Okonjo-Iweala defeated her opponent , Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea. She polled 104 votes against her opponent who got 53 votes.
Okonjo-Iweala is the first African to fill the position of the Director General in the World Trade Organisation.
Her emergence is expected to be announced formally by the WTO later on Wednesday.
