The trade minister of South Korea, Yoo Myung-hee has withdrawn her bid to head the World Trade Organization which indicates that the former Finance Minister of Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is the sole aspirant for the position according to reports.
Yoo Myunghee came to the conclusion after high level deliberations with nations where certain matters were discussed among which is the necessity to reinvigorate the organization.
Her decision to step down comes after a number of past US government officials urged the newly sworn in President Joe Biden to endorse Okonjo-Iweala after former President Trump stopped her selection.
The opposition halted the nomination process because WTO decisions are made on the basis of a consensus of its members.
Okonjo-Iweala who reportedly remains optimistic of clinching the job serves on Twitter’s board of directors, as chair of the GAVI vaccine alliance as well as a special envoy for the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 fight.
