The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended two persons over the death of a family of 10 in Biogberu village via Gwanara in the Baruten Local Government Area, after consuming a local herbal mixture.
The incident which happened in the rural community last Friday but was reported on Monday.
According to reports, the accused, Okosi Musa and Worugura Julin, offered a woman, Pennia Bonnie, of the Fulani camp, Biogberu, the herbal mixture as a cure for foot infection.
They were said to have directed her to share the mixture with her family members to avoid the spread of the disease among them.
Pennia Bonnie bought the idea and shared the mixture with her partner , their children, as well as other relatives, who passed away after taking the portion.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, said the matter was reported to the police by one Ibrahim Bonnie on Tuesday, adding that the Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Bagega, had ordered an investigation into the matter.
He further disclosed that the arrested suspects are currently assisting the police with the investigation.
The CP advised sick members of the public “to seek medical solutions only in recognised medical facilities spread across the state to avoid ugly incidents of this nature.”
