Nnamdi Kanu: Why I Jumped Bail, Escaped From Nigeria

Leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has given reasons why he jumped bail and fled the country.

Nnamdi who was accused of terrorism and treasonable felony said in court on Tuesday that he fled the country to secure his life having been threatened by security men.

The alleged Biafran leader noted that he fled the country on the premise of security men invading his house and killing other statesmen.

The counsel representing the federal government, Shuaib Labaran had presented before the court that Kanu escaped bail by running out of the country.

Labaran also appealed to the court to remand Kanu in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS).

The counsel said the request became imperative because lawyers to Kanu were yet to be abreast of his re-arrest.

At the court hearing, Justice Binta Nyako approved that Kanu should remain in DSS custody till July 26.

Kanu’s lawyers who failed to appear before the court due to short notice will now have to prepare for his defence which was originally slated for October 20, 2021, till it was brought down to July 26, 2021.

Kanu who smiled out of the courtroom despite the charges against him appeared to have been given VIP treatment.

Though he was seen in handcuffs, he has however moved through a special gate reserved for judges and high-class people, to be moved to the DSS detention centre.

Photographers and cameramen were left in shock when told that the Ipob leader has been escorted out of the courthouse.
