The collapsed building on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi got a 21- floor architectural approval by the Lagos State Government.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat said this during his visit to the scene of the incident.
This is contrary to the statement credited to General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Mr Gbolahan Oki, that the owner of the collapsed structure, under construction in Ikoyi, was given approval to construct only 15 floors.
Hamzat confirmed to newsmen that one of the buildings being constructed close to the site was given 15- floor approval but the collapse structure has approval for 21 floors.
He added that the construction was stopped between June and November last year to enable the owner rectify the structural defaults.
