The Alaafin of Oyo , Oba Lamidi Adeyemi , has passed away at the age of 83.
The public affairs officer for the late Monarch , Mr Bode Durojaye, confirmed the death in a response to an inquiry.
He said, “Alaafin is dead. Details in due course.”
He was 83-years-old and the longest-serving Oyo Monarch having ruled for 52 years..
The monarch died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, on Friday night, April 22nd. His body has since been taken to Oyo state where his burial rites have since begun.
The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad before he passed on late Friday night.
Alaafin Adeyemi who was born on OCtober 15, 1938, into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town was installed as king on November ,1978, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I.
He is survived by many wives and children.
With the passing of Alaafin Adeyemi, the baton of kingship is expected to be handed over to the Agunloye Ruling House to produce the next Oyo monarch. Adeyemi’s predecessor, Alaafin Ladigbolu, was from the Agunloye House.
