A blogger, Ahmed Olamilekan, has been picked up by the Department of State Services over a controversial piece on Ogun State Governor , Dapo Abiodun.
The published report was based on the governor’s alleged past criminal records in the United States.
According to the blogger’s attorney, Festus Ogun, who was denied access to visit his client on Monday , he said Olamilekan has been in detention since Friday after obliging an invitation by the police .
He accused Abiodun of being behind the arrest of his client, noting that the governor could have taken legal actions instead of misusing his authority.
Abiodun’s political opponents had initially demanded his disqualification over his alleged arrest in the US for credit card fraud and forgery in 1986.
The governor however dismissed the claims.
The public relations officer of the DSS, Peter Afunanya, denied that the journalist was in the agency’s custody.
“Let the lawyer be truthful to you,” he said.
Ogun at a later time disclosed that the journalist had been transferred to the police command headquarters.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr Waheed Odusule, said he couldn’t elaborate on the arrest of the blogger.
Efforts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oyeyemi Abimbola, for comments have been in vain.
Governor Abiodun is seeking re-election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
