The All Progressives Congress National Stakeholders have charged the Governors Forum alongside the leadership of the party to give room for a Muslim-Christian ticket with the need to see a Northern Christian emerge as the vice-presidential candidate.
Their concerns boil down to a raging controversy surrounding a Muslim – Muslim ticket.
In his keynote address to mark the June 12 Democracy Day, Convener of the APC National Stakeholders Forum, Aliyu Audu, stated the need to reject the proposed Muslim-Muslim ticket, while advocating for a Muslim-Christian ticket noting that having a Christian as a running mate will ensure national inclusion and promote unity
He said, “Why we are conscious of the fact that religion should not be a determining factor in the our leadership selection process. The peculiar circumstance the nation finds herself calls for reflection in the decisions we take, so long as they bother on our national lives.
Audu stated categorically that this will strengthen ethnicity and religion among Nigerians rather than risk the party’s chances at the polls. He said the selection process is critical in giving the party a fair chance at the forthcoming election
According to him, Nigeria is in dire need of good governance, which can come from either a Muslim leader or a Christian leader adding that any attempt to fuel what divides the masses will only do more harm than good which in turn give mischief makers the avenue to take advantage of our differences.
